Q: How do I put a pdf online so I can link to it?
Putting a pdf onto your server is the same as putting a gif, html page, or anything else on your server.
Will your server allow you to put a pdf on it? (Try it and see.)
Are you using an FTP program?
Are you using an FTP web page?
Are you using a Plesk or other interface of your own?
Are you using an online interface like a File Manager at a free server account like Yahoo, Tripod or GeoCities?
The pdf is on your computer. Upload it to your site's server.
When done, go to your main page. Put a slash after your URL in the address line and type the name of the item you just put on your server. Click on GO. Now you have the URL to link to on other pages.
If you stored a pdf or anything in a folder on your server, be sure to put your folder name on the address line after the slash and then another slash before your item name. Many URL errors occur due to not properly giving the location of the item, or typos, or forgetting that something was a capital letter or not.
Read this URL with me:
http://www.smokersclub.com/video/archive.html
www.smokersclub.com is the main page, the start of the domain.
/video is a folder on that domain with stuff in it.
/archive.html is the name of the item in that folder that you want to see.
